Aniko Peterson Helps People Achieve Beautiful, Healthy Skin

Aniko Peterson, is the founder and CEO of pH BALANCE SKINCARE. Growing up in Eastern Europe she learned the enduring power of family, giving, and hard work. As her parents worked long hours to provide for her family, her grandmother became her caregiver and mentor.

Her grandmother courageously survived internment in a Soviet work camp after World War II, but despite this difficult and trying time, she believed you can survive as long as you have hope. She believed in hope for a better life and the belief that you can realize your dreams no matter how difficult the situation.

Motivated by her grandmother, Aniko received her nursing degree from Bajza Jozsef Gimna’zium College of Health and shortly after studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Uzsoki Hospital in Budapest. It was there she became inspired by the scientists and doctors who were researching cancer treatments and decided to pursue a career in medical massage and aesthetics.

After coming to America, she founded and managed the Art of Massage Studio where she concentrated on therapy treatments to achieve maximum wellness. From there she went on to found pH Balance Skincare.

What motivated and inspired you to start your own business?

During the time I was running Art of Massage Studio, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with cancer. Her treatments left her skin burned and irritated and I knew I had to help. I was reminded of my grandmother’s lesson: “Giving is the key to happiness.”

I was determined to help my friend during this difficult time and I knew I could alleviate at least one aspect of her difficult process if I united my medical and therapeutic expertise.

After much research, I determined that most traditional skincare failed to address the concerns of those undergoing cancer treatments, and some could even hinder healing due to chemicals, irritants, and harsh formulations.

My education in the sciences, experience, inspiration, and persistence led me to develop pH BALANCE SKINCAREproducts that are free of irritants and chemicals, with naturally nourishing ingredients to promote optimal healing and relief.

pH BALANCE SKINCARE products are formulated to hydrate and repair the skin, not only for cancer patients but for individuals experiencing a variety of skin irritations.

I have been dedicated to helping people achieve beautiful, healthy skin – a simple, but incredibly important feat for many years. Having both beautiful and healthy skin has the potential to change your entire life. When you feel beautiful, you can achieve greatness.

After a life-changing event, I decided to dedicate my efforts to making every person feel beautiful. I live by the belief that giving is the key to happiness. After a close friend of mine experienced harsh reactions from chemotherapy, I used my medical background to help any way I could. Through this help, I came up with a beautiful idea: pH balance.

Potential of Hydrogen, or pH, measures the acidity or alkalinity of a solution. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, 0 being the most acidic, 14 being the most alkaline, and 7 being neutral. Our skin has a natural pH balance range of about 4.5-6. Balanced pH levels are very important to the outer layer of our skin, stratum corneum, because it contains an acid mantle, which helps protect your skin from irritation and bacteria.

Keeping the stratum corneum pH balanced is the key to healthy skin. The pH Balance Skincare® System ensures that all products have a pH range of 4.5 to 6. This balance can change your dry, irritated, and compromised skin into beautiful, healthy, and moisturized skin.

Where is your business based?

New Jersey, not far from Princeton.

What were the first few steps you took to get your business up and running?

Listening to and watching successful entrepreneurs. I have been watching Shark Tank since their first season in 2010. When I was literally just getting started, I had the opportunity to pitch my business at a Success Formula conference that Damon John was at. The feedback and advice that I received helped me get to the next level.

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?

1. Any way where I can personally interact with people who need help or are helping others.
2. Health and wellness based events and shows.
3. Connecting with Oncology centers and Doctors.
4. Handing out samples to those who need them, or the people helping those who need it.  

What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Getting directly engaged with medical professionals and doctors who have direct contact with those suffering the most. Also, only having 24 hours in a day!

There is so much to do to get people the help they need with their skin issues and challenges. Everyone deserves relief from discomfort!

How did you overcome these challenges?

Getting the right help from the right people on my team. Every day brings new challenges, and you must have a strong network of people with all different skills and talents. You can’t do it all yourself (even though I try!).

How do you keep motivated through difficult times?

Although my Grandmother passed away from cancer when I was 15 years old, her wisdom, positive attitude, and abundant compassion motivated me to dedicate my life to helping people.

How do you distinguish yourself from your competitors?

Being transparent and true to our pH Balance Skincare customers about the ingredients in our products. The right pH plus not having harmful chemicals helps achieve optimal balance. Our unique philosophy is “skincare you can trust”.

What is the best advice you have received recently?

Persistence! Never stop trying!

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

Never, ever give up! If you really believe in yourself and what your business is all about, never give up!

What are your favorite business tools/resources and why?

Success Formula (founded by Damon John from Shark Tank). I have always been motivated by Damon’s story, how he got started, what he went through, his failures that led to his ultimate success. This clearly come through in the classes, seminars, online tools, and advisors that have helped me along the way.

What is a good article or book you have read recently?

Actually a movie… “The Founder”.

What are you currently learning about for your business or looking for help with?

Getting into international markets in Europe and South America.

What are your goals for the next few months and how are you striving to achieve them?

I want to get into a number of medical and oncology centers to pitch my company and reach agreements. I plan to use my connections I achieved owning and running a day spa for 10 years, and get out there “knocking on doors”.
